High-speed traffic shaper

High-speed traffic shaper

Traffic shaper is a device that by inserting the path allows regulating network traffic based on administrator-defined parameters. A prototype developed by CVIS BUT employees allows network traffic division into individual classes on which the parameters of network traffic can be further applied.

Description of technology

Traffic shaper is implemented as a single-purpose device designed for installation in standard industrial control panels. Four 10 Gb/s SFP+ interfaces are used for connectivity. System throughput for a maximum number of defined classes is 20 Gb/s. It is possible to optionally implement a full-featured packet routing on the device using common routing protocols. For demanding environments where a high degree of availability and redundancy is requested it is possible to install multiple devices in a cluster providing mutual N+1 backup system. Device integration to the cluster can also be used for the linear throughput increase.

Main advantages

  • Low manufacturing costs compared to products with comparable parameters.
  • Small size for device installation (2U).
  • Additional functions working as a full-fledged routing support.
  • Multiple device integration in a cluster for linear throughput increase and a redundant solution in the N+1 configuration.

Intellectual property protection

Technical solutions will be classified.

Cooperation proposal

We offer the license to use the prototype including SW in the Czech Republic.
