NETME Centre – Division of Virtual Machine Design and Testing

New Technologies in Mechanical Engineering – Division of Virtual Designing and Testing specializes in research, education and providing comprehensive services in the development of new products. Stress is placed on using the latest knowledge of basic research and the applied sciences and on integrating computer, information and communication technologies into the design process.

Scientific and research activities are particularly aimed at using the universal technologies of computer-aided design and numerical simulation (Virtual Prototyping a Virtual Testing) and real testing in the development of new products. The main activities relate to almost all areas of managing the product life-cycle in the production sphere and include development and design, engineering analyses, prototyping, optical diagnostics and the digitization and testing of mechanical systems and materials.

We offer the following:

Optical diagnostics

We are able to realize industrial requirements in the optical digitization of real objects and reverse engineering. We work with ATOS and Tritop devices, and TEBIS software.

We offer:

  • Reconstruction and inspection of geometry
  • Comparing products to the CAD data
  • Creation of primitives based on scanned data
  • Optimization of the STL network
  • Production of plastic ABS models based on CAD data and the production of thin shells

Development and construction

We have long experience in designing equipment for cleaning waste water, constructing reservoirs and conveyors, driers, furnaces and other machinery. We also offer design activities in the field of industrial design.

We provide:

  • 3D modelling, visualization and animation
  • Construction activities
  • Virtual prototyping
  • Industrial and product design
  • Solutions for ergonometrics and product styling

Acoustic emissions

The laboratory of acoustic emissions is one of the best equipped labs of its kind in the Czech Republic which focuses on short-term and long-term tests.

We provide:

  • Identification of the development of fatigue damage, the occurrence and spread of fissures (also under the surface)
  • Diagnostics of damaged bearings and gears
  • Monitoring corrosive degradation, the course of welding, and/or other technological operations

Tribology

We are able to assess the behaviour of real examples of surface unevenness in elastohydrodynamically lubricated contact, including a description of the deformations. We can predict the influence of unevenness and estimate more precisely the life span of surfaces. We also work with biological lubricating films in which we analyse the thickness and formation of proteins under conditions of the variable speed of friction surfaces and variable load.

We provide:

  • The opportunity to predict the influence of micro-irregularities of engineering surfaces
  • Estimation of the life span of engineering surfaces
  • Visualization of engineering surfaces
  • Research into reducing friction and the wearing-out of joint prostheses so as to improve the quality of people’s lives.
  • Cooperation with medical centres

Engineering analyses

We make calculations of machine parts and structures using the finite element method. We use Ansys software.

We provide:

  • Computer analysis of tension and deformation of structures
  • Assessment of the safety, reliability and/or optimization of structures, depending on customers’ requirements
  • Computer analysis of noise, vibration and the modal properties of structures
  • Consultancy, advisory services and lecturing activities in the above-mentioned fields, possible participation in customers’ science and research programmes.

Vibro-acoustics

We perform measuring in the field of vibro-acoustics and stress analysis. We use equipment manufactured by Brüel & Kjær, HBM, Dewetron and National Instruments.

We provide:

  • Measuring noise and vibrations
  • Analysis of noise emissions in the field and using an acoustic chamber
  • Experimental and modal analysis
  • Analysis of operational waveforms
  • Measuring forces and moments
  • Identification of noise sources and springing and damping characteristics
  • Experimental analysis of tension using resistance tensometrics in the static and dynamic load of machine parts and assemblies, including determining residual tension
  • Advisory services in reducing vibro-acoustic emissions and vibrations
